The book I wish I had earlier

Hello! I am Agathe, from France. Several years ago I moved to Norway, and started to explore the country. I was amazed by the landscapes. But I gradualy realized that my first trips did not actually reach their full “potential of amazement”, because I did not have the right knowledge at that time.

The book Find your Norway contains everything I learned in my search for unique and amazing moments around Norway. I made this book thinking of my younger self and what I wish I knew earlier.

The rapidly changing weather

This day of July, my friend and me were the only one to see the breathtaking view over Segla:

“Most people missed it. But thanks to good planning and the right knowledge, we did not! And even better, we had this scenery all for ourself.”

When we woke up on that day, our precise weather forecast apps were predicting a very cloudy day in Senja, but it also said it was potentially less cloud for a short time around lunch. We therefore decided to start the hike to Hesten, while the whole island was quiet because of the bad weather. When we started the hike, we could not see any mountain tops.

Because we did not know precisely when the sky would open up, we had packed our backpacks with a lot of wool clothes to not get cold in case we had to wait for the view. Good we did it, because once at the top, there was no view at all and we had to wait for the sky to clear up. After a 30-minutes wait, we started to see a bit more of the mountains. And after one hour, finally, the view over Segla was clear and we could enjoy this magical scenery all by ourself.

Our goal was to get to enjoy these landscapes away from the crowd and with good enough weather. We had to wait for one hour in the cold fog, but still, we definitly reached our goal! Without proper clothes and good planning, it would not have been possible.

When hiking down, we met a lot of people going up. They saw that the sky had cleared up and hence decided to start the hike themselves. Unfortunately, by the time most of these people reached the top, the mountains were covered under the clouds again. On that day, there was only a tiny window of time to get a great view from Hesten over Segla. Most people missed it. But thanks to good planning and the right knowledge, we did not! And even better, we had this scenery all for ourself.

In the book Find your Norway you will find a method easy to follow including many tools, locations, and information for successful trips like this one.
